چکیده
1550-7998=20 The capture of compact bodies by black holes in galactic nuclei is an important prospective source for low frequency gravitational wave detectors, such as the planned Laser Interferometer Space Antenna. This paper calculates, using a semirelativistic approximation, the total energy and angular momentum lost to gravitational radiation by compact bodies on very high eccentricity orbits passing close to a supermassive, nonspinning black hole; these quantities determine the characteristics of the orbital evolution necessary to estimate the capture rate. The semirelativistic approximation improves upon treatments which use orbits at Newtonian order and quadrupolar radiation emission, and matches well onto accurate Teukolsky simulations for low eccentricity orbits. Formulas are presented for the semirelativistic energy and angular momentum fluxes as a function of general orbital parameters.

Prompt Mergers of Neutron Stars with Black Holes
Mergers of neutron stars with black holes have been suggested as candidates for short gamma-ray bursts. They have also been studied for their potential as gravitational wave sources observable with ground-based detectors. For these purposes, it is important to know under what circumstances such a merger could leave an accretion disk or result in a period of stable mass transfer. We show that, c...

In this paper, we calculate the relativistic bulk tensor and shear tensor of the relativistic accretion ows in the Kerr metric, overall and without any approximation. We obtain the relations of all components of the relativistic bulk and shear tensor in terms of components of four-velocity and its derivatives, Christoffel symbols and metric components in the BLF. Then, these components are deri...

We present Newtonian three–dimensional hydrodynamical simulations of the merger of quark stars with black holes. The initial conditions correspond to non-spinning stars in Keplerian orbits, the code includes gravitational radiation reaction in the quadrupole approximation for point masses. We find that the quark star is disrupted, forming transient accretion structures around the black hole, bu...
متن کاملTowards the solution of the relativistic gravitational radiation reaction problem for binary black holes
Here we present the results of applying the generalized Riemann ζ -function regularization method to the gravitational radiation reaction problem. We analyse in detail the head-on collision of two non-spinning black holes with an extreme mass ratio. The resulting reaction force on the smaller hole is repulsive. We discuss the possible extensions of these method to generic orbits and spinning bl...
